Our Manni, Mythili (Kamakshi) came into our family on 23 April 1956 when she married our அண்ணா Chandru (Ramachandran). Our Anna - Manni had 4 sons and 3 daughters. Anna started his career in Indian Postal Dept. They lived in various places during Anna's employment, Tirupapuliyur, Devanmpattinam being the most notable places.
They educated all their seven children in Cuddalore / Tirupapuliyur. By 1984 Anna retired as Subpostmaster. After the marriage of their second daughter Usha in 1988, they shifted to New Delhi in the same year, breaking their connection with Tamilnadu for ever.
Anna passed away in New Delhi on 5 June 1989 after a brief illness. Manni continued in Delhi. As the years went by, Anna's children started growing in economic status. Though Anna was not there physically to see his children grow and prosper, Manni was there all along, guiding them, counselling them, sharing their joy & happiness at every step. In fact, Manni was like mother to all of us in GRS family, not just to the seven children.
By the time Anna passed away, only Rama and Usha had been married. It was Manni who assumed a fatherly role as well - and got Vasu (1990), Sridhar (1991), Bama (1993), Srikanth (1997), and Ravi (2000) married. Anna saw their first two grandchildren - Santosh and Satish; they were followed by another eleven grandchildren who grew under the personal care and affection of their Paatti.
As I said earlier, our Manni was like a mother to all of us, most kind and compassionate. Each one of us in the family turned to her for guidance, advice, suggestion. "Call Manni, and seek her advice," was the first mantra for all of us when faced with a problem, major or minor; and our Manni would always be there to listen to us and guide us properly and give us solace. She was so kind and affectionate to one and all. Everyone of us was extremely comfortable in her presence.
Particularly to Vijaya, Girija, and Kalyani, she was the kind "manni" who always taught them in the intricacies and nuances of a huge, joint family! When married, Vijaya felt at first scared and clueless in the joint family; it was Manni who restored Vijaya's confidence, trained her in day-to-day family affairs and in all other matters also. Vijaya will never forget Manni for shaping her in life.
Manni led a happy and peaceful life, glowing in her childrens' prosperity and basking in the affection and attention showered on her by all her daughters & sons, நாட்டுப்பெண்கள் & மாப்பிள்ளைகள். The grandchildren adored her and were closely attached to her. Manni truly deserved all this. Our Manni was a living example of this.
After a brief illness and a bout of pneumonia, for which she had to be admitted in the ICU of a Delhi hospital on 21 July 2009, she suddenly and most unexpectedly breathed her last and left us all at 1210 midnight of 1st-2nd August 2009. Cardiac Respiratory Arrest was the verdict. She was 74 years old.
Her passing away has left a huge vacuum in the lives of all seven sons/daughters and it will take a long, long time for them to come out of this shock and loss. I pray to God to bless them with the needed fortitude.
May Manni's soul Rest in Peace. God bless all.
