Savithri and Saveetha Hospital - Part 3

9 June 2008 to 16 June 2008

Prev : part 2

Monday, June 9, 2008 (visit No 6)

Savithri came from Hosur by 6-30am yesterday (8-6-2008); she came alone, as Ramesh had left for Haridwar.

Today we three (Savithri, Vijaya, and I) left house at 0835 am for Saveetha hospital in Arun's car. I had to fill petrol (Rs 500.00) at Adyar.

At Saveetha, Dr Muthu Sekar checked Savithri and told that there is no improvement even after applying Candid for the past 10-15 days, "Surgery is the only way out," he said, and advised a series of tests - ECG, chest XRay, blood test (Liver Function Test). The last-mentioned test fees are Rs 750.00 and unfortunately we were short of this money. We took ECG (50.00), paid for XRay (100.00) but not taken since the eqpt was not working. We waited for Ramesh' friend to come and deliver us the money but he didn't come at all. Finally, at 12-30PM I took a "loan" of Rs 500.00 from the driver, paid 750.00 for the LFT, and Savithri gave the blood sample.

We have to come tomorrow (10 June) for the XRay and the blood test results. If the Physician certifies Savithri as fit, the surgery will be on 12th (Thursday)

We returned home at 1-30PM. Updated everybody. We have asked Jayaraman to join us at Porur tomorrow morning.

Tuesday, 10 June 2008 (visit no 7)

We three left at 0830am in Arun's car. Jayaraman was waiting at Porur and he joined us. At Saveetha, we collected the lab result. But we had to wait for a long time for the XRay. With all these reports, we went to the Operation Theatre (R No 203 on the 2nd floor) and met Dr Ashwin.

He wanted the white card the hospital's case sheet; we had to make a new OP card and then this white card as the old card was misplaced by the hospital staff!. Dr Ashwin took all the reports and results (right from Bangalore reports). Though he told that the surgery would be on 17th or 19th, we suggested 12th June, and he agreed for this date. Dr Muthu Sekar also agreed.

We are to come tomorrow (11 June) at 9AM to meet the Physician; if found fit by him, Savithri would be admitted. Discharge on 16th or 17th. So we have to be prepared for six days' stay at Saveetha starting tomorrow.

After dropping Jayaraman at Porur we came home by 1-30PM.

Ramesh has come to chennai on official project duty (for 3 months) and he visited us at the hospital briefly.

Evening, we packed our things for the stay at Saveetha.

Wednesday, 11 June 2008 (visit no 8)

Everyone got up early; Vijaya prepared our breakfast (Idli), lunch and dinner; packed all these and set forth in a Call Taxi for Saveetha at 8 AM. Call taxi fare :: Rs 290 - 300 each way.

Dr Ashwin took us to the physician Dr Syed Ameen Ahmed who checked up Savithri and told us her BP level was very high at 170 / 100 !! Savithri couldn't believe this.

Dr Ashwin told us nothing could be done unless the BP is brought down to normalcy (120 / 80). He suggested to take the BP tablet without fail and report again on Friday; if the BP level is not normal on Friday, she could be admitted for lowering the BP; it may take 4 or 5 days to bring down the level. On the other hand, if it is found normal, we can come on Monday 16th and get admitted for surgery.

We were all disappointed; we called for a Taxi and went to Jayaraman's house, since we had packed our breakfast / lunch / dinner! Jayaraman's house is 14 km from Saveetha. We ate idlis there and at 1PM had our packed lunch. Took rest; evening went to our mama's son Mr Kailasam's house; had dinner at Jayaraman's house and took 12 B back home. Reached home by 10 PM.

Friday, 13 June 2008 (Mylapore)

Last evening, we took a BP checkup at Sai Labs, Mylapore; it was 130 / 80, almost normal. So I phoned Dr Ashwin and suggested that we would come direct on Monday (16th) and get admitted. He agreed to my suggestion. So no trip to Saveetha today !

Monday, 16 June 2008. (visit no 9)

Today only Savithri and I started for Saveetha. (Krithika'a amma had met with an accident, is in Billroth Hospital and Vijaya has to prepare breakfast / lunch / dinner for mami and mama) Breakfast (idli), lunch, dinner were prepared and packed by Vijaya; clothes for 5 days' stay packed.

I called for a Taxi and set forth at 8 am. We went to Mylapore, Sai Labs for checkup; BP was 160 / 100. Even though it was high, we proceeded hoping that the level would come down in an hour. Unfortunately, it did not; it was still 160 / 100 when the Physician at Saveetha checked. They wanted us to get admitted today itself for lowering BP.

We asked for some time and suggested that we would come on 27th June Friday and get admitted. 22nd is Meena's marriage and 26th is our amma's thivasam. Dr Ashwin and Dr Muthu Sekar agreed for 27th. Savithri phoned Ramesh, and Ganesh and informed them.

Like the other day, we had to return disappointed. Why does Savithri's BP vary so erratically? Chennai weather??

Savithri left Chennai on 17th Tuesday night by bus for Hosur. She would come back on the morning of Thursday 26th June.

Anna Centenary Library, Kotturpuram

ANNA CENTENARY LIBARARY (அண்ணா நூற்றாண்டு நூலகம்) is a newly established State Library of Tamilnadu. It was declared open on 15th Sept 2010. Located in Kotturpuram, Chennai. This last Sunday, 1st May 2011, we hit upon the idea - we will go and see this library. No serious reason, but a sudden whiff of fancy. Vijaya, her old classmate and friend Mrs Prema, and I left house at 3-30PM. A bus upto Madhya Kailash, and an auto thereon, left us at the gates of this huge, beautiful building at 4 PM. From the outside, it was immensely impressive and imposing - maybe of 9 or 10 floors, exquisitely constructed. As we walked the lawns to reach the Main Entrance, the interest in us was bubbling. (Caution: Handbags, Cameras are strictly prohibited. Even waterbottles are not allowed inside the halls.) There is a 5-feet bronze statue of Mr CN Annadurai, in whose name and honour this library is built. This is the Tamilnadu Chief minister Mr M Karunanidhi's pet project and he, as usual, has ov

Dr Muthulakshmi Reddy The road from Adyar Signal to Thiruvanmiyur signal (in Chennai) is called Lattice Bridge Road (LB Road); this English name was re-christened as Dr Muthulakshmi Reddy Road long back, but the old English name only prevails now. Who is this Dr Muthulakshmi Reddy? In the princely state of Pudukkottai there lived Narayanaswami Iyer who married a devadasi by name Chandramma - this marriage created a sensation that time.
