Our Bangalore Visit - May 2013

Our Bangalore visit May 2013.

Ever since Savithri informed us that she would be celebrating her 70th birthday at Hosur, we had determined that we would go there. And then she informed that she is having RUDRAM at her house by 15 Veda Vidwans on 12th May and she asked us to come without fail. We agreed and started planning.

Initially we thought of travelling via Salem and so i booked our tickets to Salem for 2nd May and from Salem to Bangalore on 3rd May. From SBC to Chennai, I booked by the 0800 AM train of 15th May.

But, after i booked these tickets, Arvind told me suddenly to take ADITI also to SBC for a week; he would come to SBC and bring her back. So our rescheduling started;  I cancelled the Salem tickets and booked three tickets by Shatabdi (6 PM) express for 27th April.

Then, the Railways announced on April 23 that the new Double Decker AC express would commence from 25th Apr to Bangalore. I was eagerly awaiting for this Double Decker train, so I cancelled our Shatabdi tickets and booked afresh by this new train to SBC for Saturday the 27th April and return on 14th May, again by this train from SBC. Oh me, how many cancellations and rebookings ... !

27 April 2013, Saturday

We packed for us and Krithika - Arvind packed separately for Aditi. All os uf got up by 4-15,had bath, and left house by 6:00 AM in Arvind's car for Rly Stn. The gleaming Double Decker train was on PF No 2 and our coach C10 was at the front, next to Engine. We boarded and sat. Aditi was thrilled. The train left at 07:20 AM. The train was 95% full. We had carried idli for the breakfast and we ate by 8-30.

In the train, Aditi got three friends, of her own age, and all the four children played, sang, and thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Finally, we reached Bangalore Cant Stn where Ashok was waiting for us and we drove to his house.

We had lunch and took rest. Then at 5 PM all of us went to Meenakshi Mall; i purchased a pair of shirts for Arjun. Arun joined us at the Mall. He purchased a new dress for Sowmya for her birthday on 17th May. Gayathri, S,S have gone to Thuraiyur and returning tomorrow morning.

28-04-2013 to 01-05-2013 -- ARUN's House.

Arun went to the station from here on 28/04 and took them home. At 1000 AM we all left for Munnena Kollal to Arun's house. First we went to BTM Layout house and then proceeded there. The house is 2 BHK house on the 2nd floor. G's sister Meena Sankar is on the I floor. After lunch there, Ashok and Neeraja returned and we two and Aditi stayed back. On 29th, ARVIND paid a flying visit to see Aditi. He was in Bangalore on an official trip. On 01 May at 7:00 AM all of us left for Cubbon Park. Ashok-Neeraja joined us there after a little while. We had taken idli and dosai (purchased at Namma Uru by Ashok-Neeraja) and we ate the breakfast at the Cubbon Park.

After an hour or so, we proceeded to a place called Devarayana Durga, 90 km away on the Tumkur expressway. we arrived there by 12 noon, a very hot noon. Actually we went to Namada Chilume. It was a hot rocky place. We ate our lunch there - Poori-Aloo, and Thayir sadam. We left that place by 2:15 and back to Bangalore. We went to Anand's house. Ramani and Padma Manni were also there.

After spending an hour there, we and Aditi returned to Ashok's house and Arun and family to their house.

02-05 to 04-05-2013 Thu -Sat --- Ashok's house.

We spent time in Ashok's house. Eyesore to Vijaya. Went to Neeraja's parents' house where Aditi sang quite a few songs. Arvind came on 4th from Chennai by Double decker train. Power failed in the evening. A major fault. Transformer faulty.

05-05 and 06-05-2013 Sun - Mon --- ARUN's house

As the Power problem persisted, and no water in the house, all of us left at 7-45 AM on 5th for Arun's house. Ashok returned after dropping us there. Arvind and Aditi left at 2 PM for KR Puram station and boarded the DD express at 3-15 for Chennai. We had a nice time with Aditi for the past 8 days and she too enjoyed the company of Sowmya.

6th (Monday) was the Nichchaya thaartham day of Vaasan, s/o Neeraja's chithappa. But we could not make it since there was no way we could reach Ashok's house. Power was restored by 6 PM, and Ashok-Neeraja came to Marathahalli at 10-15 PM. Arun dropped us there and we drove back to BG Road by 11-15 PM.

07-05 to 10-05-2013  Tue to Fri --- Ashok's house

We spent time at Ashok's house; evenings we two would go for a walk in the nearby Park. Neeraja left for her parents' house on Friday the 10th. She and her mother are leaving for Chennai on Saturday (11th) morning train (6.30)

11-05 and 12-05-2013  Sat and Sun --- Hosur

TODAY, 11th, is the 70th birthday of Savithri. We two left with Ashok in his car at 7 AM on 11th for Hosur and reached there by 8AM. Had breakfast and then went to the nearby Pillaiyar koil to participate in the archanai. Preparations are in full swing for tomorrow's Rudrabhishekam. Mangalam and family has arrived by 6 PM yesterday.

12th MAY ---- Rudrabhishekam at Savithri's House.

We were all ready by 7 AM and the Vathiyars came by 8 and started the Abhishekam. 11 types of abhishekam, with chanting of Rudram went on. Nearly 60 people (incl us) attended it. Arun came at 9 AM by train. The function was a grand success. Lunch was from a Caterer. We had lunch by 2PM. A big hand to Savithri who had arranged everything, all preparations, single-handed, all alone. Very remarkable.

We gave a sari to Savithri. We left Hosur by 8-15PM after food. Arun got down at Silk board and went to his house.

14-05-2013 Tuesday - return to chennai.

We left Ashok's house by 1 PM. Neeraja left us at Jayadeva flyover, from where we took auto to Railway Station. The Double Decker train to Chennai was on PF 7 but there was the excellent convenience of lift facility. We were in Lower Deck this time and leaving BLR by 2:40 PM, we reached Chennai by 8:30. Arvind and Aditi came to pick us up.

Anna Centenary Library, Kotturpuram

ANNA CENTENARY LIBARARY (அண்ணா நூற்றாண்டு நூலகம்) is a newly established State Library of Tamilnadu. It was declared open on 15th Sept 2010. Located in Kotturpuram, Chennai. This last Sunday, 1st May 2011, we hit upon the idea - we will go and see this library. No serious reason, but a sudden whiff of fancy. Vijaya, her old classmate and friend Mrs Prema, and I left house at 3-30PM. A bus upto Madhya Kailash, and an auto thereon, left us at the gates of this huge, beautiful building at 4 PM. From the outside, it was immensely impressive and imposing - maybe of 9 or 10 floors, exquisitely constructed. As we walked the lawns to reach the Main Entrance, the interest in us was bubbling. (Caution: Handbags, Cameras are strictly prohibited. Even waterbottles are not allowed inside the halls.) There is a 5-feet bronze statue of Mr CN Annadurai, in whose name and honour this library is built. This is the Tamilnadu Chief minister Mr M Karunanidhi's pet project and he, as usual, has ov...
