Ashok's Accident

ASHOK's LEFT ANKLE fractured, Surgery

Ashok met with an accident on the noon of Thursday, the 29 January 2009. While he was riding his scooter on his way to an eye doctor, a car collided with the scooter in BTM Layout, Bangalore. His left ankle got swollen and after first aid in a nearby doctor's place, he was taken to an orthopaedist Dr BS JAYARAM in Banashankari.

This doctor is known to Mr. Ramasubramaniam (Neeraja's father). After xray and checkup, the doctor put a Plaster of Paris cast over the leg and advised review after 10 days. If the fracture doesn't closeup, a minor surgery might be needed, he warned.

Ashok informed us at 2 PM on the same (29th) afternoon and Vijaya and I started on 4th Feb 2009 (Wednesday) early morning. As we had to go to Vaitheeswaran Koil for mudi irakkuthal for Sriram, we couldn't start earlier.

As we entered Ashok's house, his leg was bandaged heavily and he was hopping on his right leg, using a"walker"(on hire from the doctor). The doctor had a review on 5th Feb itself. An xray was taken; the doctor told the surgery is a must. Scheduled for Monday the 9th Feb. Blood tests (Rs 2500.00) on 6th Feb and the ECG on 7th; all normal.

Sunday, 8th Feb 2009

Ashok and Neeraja left house at 7 PM after food for the hospital. Sri Krishna Hospital, 154, 29th Cross 17th Main, Banashankari 2nd Stage, (Near BDA shopping Complex), Bangalore - 560070 Tel 2671 1212. He was admitted here at 8 PM.

Ashok's cast was removed, wound place cleaned and prepared. They stayed in the hospital (R No 102) and we were in home. The surgery is tomorrow.

Monday, 9th Feb 2009

We two left house by 7-30AM for RSM's house and after breakfast there, left with RSM for the hospital. Ashok was already inside the theatre (8 AM). Preparation done. General Anasthesia was given and surgery done.

Two stainless screws (SS316) have been fixed across the fractured bone and cast applied. Successful. Ashok was stretchered out at 10.35 AM, xray taken, and put in the bed (Room 102). He was unconscious then.

We two and Neeraja went to RSM's house for lunch (RSM was at the hospital). We brought mami also after meals. Ashok had regained consciousness then. By 2 PM he was given a few tea spoons of water; and then Ilaneer (இளநீர்). Ashok was fine. We two left the hospital by 5PM, leaving Neeraja there. RSM brought idlies for Ashok and Neeraja for the night.

We phoned everyone re Ashok's surgery.

Tuesday, 10 Feb 2009

Ashok was discharged by 12 noon (bill -- Rs 22,000). There was interrupted power supply in the house and when Ashok, Neeraja, RSM arrived there was no power to the lift. RSM phoned here and there and a local electrician was brought to checkup. An hour and a half later it was confirmed that the lift was the problem; Ashok "climbed" the stairs by "squatting" one step at a time! Thursday, 19 Feb 2009

We went to the hospital in the evening by 5PM for a review. Dr BS Jayaram removed the POP cast, and the stitches. But, Ashok has to hop on one leg only for another 4 weeks! Next review on 19 March.

What was thought to be a very minor accident, has grown to this stage - Ashok hopping for over a month !! He is working from home.

Comments

  1. I can understand the ordeals that Ashok went through.

I do believe by 19 Mar he will be fully fit and back to routine.

The kind of moral support that you both, his inlaws and Neeraja are rendering should keep him in good stead.

    Cheers Ashok!!!

  3. Dear Shwetha_ji,

Ashok was completely cured in 50 days. He returned the Walker after a review by the doctor and started walking normally after the 50th day. Now it is more than 2 years since the accident and Ashok has no problems whatsoever; God is great.

Screws in your case should be decided by the doctor; i am not a qualified person to advise you on this. Act as per your doctor's advice; you will be normal in a short time. I will pray to God for your speedy recovery.

Anna Centenary Library, Kotturpuram

ANNA CENTENARY LIBARARY (அண்ணா நூற்றாண்டு நூலகம்) is a newly established State Library of Tamilnadu. It was declared open on 15th Sept 2010. Located in Kotturpuram, Chennai. This last Sunday, 1st May 2011, we hit upon the idea - we will go and see this library. No serious reason, but a sudden whiff of fancy. Vijaya, her old classmate and friend Mrs Prema, and I left house at 3-30PM. A bus upto Madhya Kailash, and an auto thereon, left us at the gates of this huge, beautiful building at 4 PM. From the outside, it was immensely impressive and imposing - maybe of 9 or 10 floors, exquisitely constructed. As we walked the lawns to reach the Main Entrance, the interest in us was bubbling. (Caution: Handbags, Cameras are strictly prohibited. Even waterbottles are not allowed inside the halls.) There is a 5-feet bronze statue of Mr CN Annadurai, in whose name and honour this library is built. This is the Tamilnadu Chief minister Mr M Karunanidhi's pet project and he, as usual, has ov

Dr. MUTHULAKSHMI REDDY

Dr Muthulakshmi Reddy The road from Adyar Signal to Thiruvanmiyur signal (in Chennai) is called Lattice Bridge Road (LB Road); this English name was re-christened as Dr Muthulakshmi Reddy Road long back, but the old English name only prevails now. Who is this Dr Muthulakshmi Reddy? In the princely state of Pudukkottai there lived Narayanaswami Iyer who married a devadasi by name Chandramma - this marriage created a sensation that time. To this couple, eight children were born out of whom four died as infants. Muthulakshmi was one that survived (born: 30 July 1886). M's sister Nallamuthu, learned English, went on to study in UK, became a Professor in QMC, Chennai, and later its Principal - the first Indian principal of QMC. Muthulakshmi went to a school in Pudukottai till the age of 13; later she studied at home tutored by teachers. She passed matriculation in the year 1902. She started dreaming about becoming a graduate. Bur her father, with meagre pension could not send her
