Wednesday 2 July 2008 SRMC (2nd day) ICU

Savithri was in the ICU, 5th Floor, SRMC, Porur. We two were in hotel; took bath and came to SRMC by 7-15 AM. We both saw Savithri in her bed and she started crying on seeing Vijaya. Her condition has been diagonosed as ISCHEMIA ( loss in supply of oxygen in the blood stream) Doctors opine that she would have had this for the past two years but unaware of its existence. It has no symptoms but very dangerous and maybe fatal. Savithri's ECG was erratic. She is being treated for all these, she is responding to medicines, and she could be shifted to the Ward by tomorrow. All these were explained to me and Ramesh by a doctor whose name is also Ramesh. The Chief Cardiologist is Dr JSN MURTHY.

Today Savithri was given Keerai saatham, Rasam saatham etc for lunch and dinner. She is normal. Sugavanam came by 12 noon and left by 4-45 PM. We two left SRMC by 6-15 PM came home by 7-45PM to wash our clothes. Ramesh and Ganesh are at SRMC. Mangalam phoned.

After much delay, Savithri was finally shifted to a twin-sharing room D 3415, in the 3rd Floor. It was 1010 PM that time. The room is quite spacious and AC-ed. Two attendants can sleep, they said. After arranging everything, myself and Ganesh left for the hotel by 11 PM; Vijaya and Ramesh slept in the room. Meals for Savithri is given by SRMC and the rest of us take from the Canteen (mostly dosais!)

Anna Centenary Library, Kotturpuram

ANNA CENTENARY LIBARARY (அண்ணா நூற்றாண்டு நூலகம்) is a newly established State Library of Tamilnadu. It was declared open on 15th Sept 2010. Located in Kotturpuram, Chennai. This last Sunday, 1st May 2011, we hit upon the idea - we will go and see this library. No serious reason, but a sudden whiff of fancy. Vijaya, her old classmate and friend Mrs Prema, and I left house at 3-30PM. A bus upto Madhya Kailash, and an auto thereon, left us at the gates of this huge, beautiful building at 4 PM. From the outside, it was immensely impressive and imposing - maybe of 9 or 10 floors, exquisitely constructed. As we walked the lawns to reach the Main Entrance, the interest in us was bubbling. (Caution: Handbags, Cameras are strictly prohibited. Even waterbottles are not allowed inside the halls.) There is a 5-feet bronze statue of Mr CN Annadurai, in whose name and honour this library is built. This is the Tamilnadu Chief minister Mr M Karunanidhi's pet project and he, as usual, has ov

M's sister Nallamuthu, learned English, went on to study in UK, became a Professor in QMC, Chennai, and later its Principal - the first Indian principal of QMC.
